Workshop Theme:\u00a0 Demonstration Of Operational Model For Water Quality Prediction<\/h4>

This workshop, organized by the project partners from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, and EMVIS Consulting Engineers. The workshop facilitated discussions between the Norwegian technology provider company, Fiizk, the project promoter EMVIS Consulting Engineers and SINTEF Ocean \u2013 the scientific evaluator.\u00a0<\/p>

The main objectives of the workshop were, first to examine the environmental challenges of aquaculture and second, to investigate the room for optimization of the aquaculture operations in the concept of hydro-ecological forecasting. \u00a0<\/p>

EMVIS Consulting Engineers presented its newly developed operational platform<\/a> in the scope of IFOS Project. The IFOS Operational Platform in the Saronic Gulf, is equipped with several tools and capabilities. Through the user-friendly interface of the platform, the user can view Earth Observation Data, specifically Sea Surface Temperature from Satellite Landsat missions.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Moreover, weekly forecasts are available for the area of interest in the northwest area of the Saronic Gulf, close to the desalination Plant of Motor oil Refineries in Agioi Theodoroi. The forecasts refer to water temperature, salinity and velocity patterns in the three-dimensional model that is implemented. A data driven water quality model is also implemented providing hind-casts and forecasts for Chlorophyll-a.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Fiizk, is the aquaculture technology provider which participated in the workshop. Fiizk is \u00a0a rapidly growing technology provider, based in Trondheim, Norway. In this Workshop, Fiizk provided its insight into the operations and everyday challenges of \u00a0the aquaculture industry in Norway and \u00a0presented the different tools and modern techniques used in Aquaculture.

Specifically, Fiizk presented the technologies they have developed such as Water Treatment Solutions, Technical Textiles, Digital Solutions,\u00a0 Semi-closed systems and closed systems. What is more, Fiizk shared its feedback on the opportunities and limitations of hydro-ecological forecasting services in the aquaculture industry.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Project partners from SINTEF presented their experience in developing the ocean forecasting model SINMOD. Moreover, SINTEF gave an overview of ongoing investigations towards data assimilation schemes, which can improve model results. Last, partners from SINTEF participated in the discussions about the opportunities of applying such operational models in the aquaculture industry.<\/p>

SINTEF is one of Europe\u2019s largest independent multidisciplenary research organisations and is based in Trondheim, Norway. SINTEF specialises in various research areas, such as Climate and Environment, Ocean Spacem Oil and Gas and renewable energy.
